animated Wilson's Warbler The male Wilson's Warbler has the a black crown which resembles a black cap from the front. Its black eye stands out against the vivid yellow of its forehead, eyebrow (supercillium) and underparts. Wilson's WarblerThe Wilson's Warbler has a darker back which is olive to grayish on wings. The undertail coverts (body feathers underneath just at the tail) are yellow as shown in the photo to the right.

Females have an olive crown. Look for the yellow supercillium to contrast this darker crown.

During spring and fall migration, these warblers show up at our backyard pond. They explore the vegetation around the creek and often bathe in its tiny pools. This small warbler has no markings on its back, wings or tail.
