The idea is to position these bird feeders so that the squirrels can not jump over to them.
If the squirrel can't jump to the feeder (learn more below) it will have to climb down the hanging line to the squirrel baffler roof.

HOW TO POSITION THE FEEDER FOR OPTIMUM RESULTS:

If squirrels were easy to foil, you wouldn't be here looking for a squirrel resistant feeder! We want to help you get the best and most consistent success with this feeder. If the first location doesn't work, keep trying.

Squirrels can jump across from 7-10 feet from one object to another. They can jump up to 5-6 feet vertically. Squirrels will drop 9-10 feet to feeders from above.

Bird feeders should be hung at least 7 - 10 feet away from other "jumping off" objects such the tree trunk, branches, fence, roof, car, pole, etc.
The bird feeder should hang low enough from a branch.
It should be high enough from the ground.

The squirrel must be forced to use the hanging line to approach the bird feeder. These bird feeders must be placed in the described location for the squirrel baffler roof to have consistent success.

HOW THE BAFFLER ROOF WORKS:

If the squirrel can not jump on the feeder, it will be forced to try climbing down from above. The squirrel baffler roof keeps the squirrel from reaching the seed at the bottom of the feeder. If the squirrel lets go of the hanging line, it will slide off and fall to the ground. The squirrel can not hold on to the hanging line and reach around the baffle and down to the seeds at the bottom of the feeder.
