silver-spotted skipper butterfly

This is a common butterfly across the U.S. and British Columbia. The large spot on the underside of this butterfly is a bold pattern that is easy to spot across the garden. Paler markings are on the upper side of the wings. The silver-spotted skippers in my yard are approximately 2" but they can be smaller and slightly larger than that.

The second photograph (above) shows a silver-spotted skipper feeding at my pentas. Pentas are dependable for attracting a nice variety of butterflies.
