Our backyard owl boxes have provided many hours of observation and enjoyment for our family and neighbors. The female takes up residence and the male come by at dusk to softly call to her to come hunting with him. We would sit on our deck and wait for the male. You have to be paying attention because his call to the female is very quiet. The female drops out of the box and they both leave together.

The little white owlets are soon crowding into the entry hole for a look at the world. Year after year we have had 2 - 3 young ones. We've not seen them in the yard after fledging.

Our resident screech-owls would bathe in our creek next to the deck also without minding the fact that we were right there watching them. They often bathed soon after leaving for the evening. We would spot them at dawn also so we presume that they bathed periodically throughout the nights.
